VKC Science Day—50 Years of Discovery

This free half-day event will include a distinguished guest from the National Institutes of Health; a bird’s eye view of research on intellectual and developmental disabilities over 5 decades by the Center’s current director and past directors; and research posters presented by Vanderbilt undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working in labs led by VKC researchers.

Timothy P. Shriver, Ph.D., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Special Olympics
Tim Shriver is a social leader, an educator, activist, film producer, and business entrepreneur. He is the Chairman of Special Olympics, and in that capacity he serves 4.4 million Special Olympics athletes and their families in 170 countries. He has helped transform Special Olympics into a movement that focuses on acceptance, inclusion, and respect for individuals with intellectual disabilities in all corners of the globe. Fifty years ago to the day, his grandmother Rose Kennedy and parents Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver celebrated the founding of the John F. Kennedy Center at Peabody College, one of our nation’s original Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center.
