Does Your 8-20-year-old have Reading Difficulties?

This research study seeks to learn more about how children and adolescents who struggle with reading can learn to become good readers. We are very interested in the best ways to teach people to read.

What’s involved in the study:

  • Phone Screening to make sure this is the right study for you (about 30 minutes)
  • One week of study participation:
    • Day 1: about 5 hours of educational testing and an MRI scan of the brain
    • Days 2-4: 15 hours of intensive tutoring, usually 5 hours per day
      • Children will be randomly assigned to one of two different groups:
        • Reading tutoring program
        • Alternate (sham) tutoring program
    • Day 5: about 2 hours of testing and an MRI scan of the brain
  • 12 weeks later, you will be invited back for an optional one-day visit, which would include more testing and another MRI scan of the brain.

We will provide:

  • Academic skills testing with summary is provided at no cost, if first day of testing is
  • A picture of your child’s brain!
  • Payments for $750 for the week-long visit ($150 per day), and $225 for optional visit 12 weeks later. Payments under $300 are via e-gift card; payments over $300 are via
