Emergency planning and preparedness refers to a process that includes: becoming informed about hazards and emergencies that may affect you and your family, developing an emergency plan, collecting and assembling essential information and a disaster supplies kit, learning where to seek shelter from all types of hazards, identifying community warning systems and evacuation routes, including in your plan required information from community and school plans, learning what to do for specific hazards, and practicing and maintain your plan. Individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities may be especially vulnerable in an emergency.
