VKC UCEDD Webinar: "Supported Decision-Making: An Introduction for Health Care Providers"

Date: August 01, 2019

Time: 12:00PM to 1:00PM

Location: Web-based presentation

The Vanderbilt Kennedy University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities will host a webinar titled "Supported Decision-Making: An Introduction for Health Care Providers" on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 12:00 p.m. CT/1:00 p.m. ET. This webinar will offer information supported decision-making in the health care setting. Supported decision-making is about helping people with disabilities make as many decisions about their own lives as possible. Conservatorship, which many of us are more familiar with, takes rights away from individuals and allows someone else to make decisions for that individual. We want to discuss less restrictive alternatives like supported decision making, particularly in the health care setting.

Presenters will be Lauren Pearcy, director of public policy at the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities, and Susan Mee, legal director of Disability Rights Tennessee. Beth Malow, M.D., M.S., Vanderbilt professor of neurology and pediatrics as well as director of Vanderbilt Sleep Disorders Division, will serve as moderator. Janet Shouse, program coordinator of the IDD Toolkit, will serve as facilitator.

This webinar is part of our ongoing effort to build capacity of clinicians to serve adults with IDD, which includes the IDD Toolkit tools at www.iddtoolkit.org, and the free online training, developed in partnership with DIDD and TennCare, at http://tinyurl.com/train-idd-meds. This webinar is for physicians, advanced practice nurses, physician’s assistants, registered nurses, psychologists and social workers.

Please join us on Aug. 1 to learn more about helping this vulnerable population. The deadline to register is July 31. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

If you have questions, please email me Janet Shouse.
