AAC All-Day Workshop: AAC Out of the Box: Programming Tips and Tricks for Effective Communication

For speech-language pathologists, special educators, other professionals in related fields, students, parents, and family members. This workshop will be offered for .6 ASHA CEUs (intermediate level; professional area). Credit will only be offered for those individuals who attend the entire Friday workshop. However, those who do not wish to receive CEUs are not required to attend the entire workshop.
This annual workshop will discuss various forms of augmentative and alternative (AAC) devices and how to program them (or teach others to program them) to get the most effective use from each. Strategies will be shared and questions taken by a speech language pathologist and representatives from two AAC device manufacturers who know the products best.
Presentation Information:
Getting to the Core of Functional Communication, presented by Kim Lapidus, CCC-SLP
Kim Lapidus will dig into the application of core vocabulary and phrases in three primary settings: community, home, and school. She will demonstrate
how the AAC Profile guides intervention in the use of high-tech AAC devices, and how to use vocabulary to achieve the goal of helping students find their voice.
What Does This Button Do? Taking the Guesswork Out of PRC and Saltillo Programming, presented by Claire Campbell
This session will provide a brief overview of the vocabulary options available on PRC and Saltillo high-tech AAC devices as well as a overview of the most common setup and programming questions. Content will include setting vocabulary level, adding new words, creating toolbox restrictions, and selecting custom settings in the toolbox.
Tips, Tricks, and Techniques with Snap + Core First, presented by Casey Lacefield
Using lecture and demonstration, participants will learn about the communication solutions of Snap + Core First that support communication engagement, literacy, and language growth. Lacefield will focus on customization, simplification, and implementation of this programming tool.
Registration Fees:
- $175 for professionals
- $125 per person for two or more professionals from the same institution
- $50 for students and parents
