Alexander Santana, Multicultural Program Coordinator, Tennessee Disability Pathfinder, recently graduated from the second session of MyCity Academy during a ceremony at the Parthenon in Centennial Park on Aug. 26. Nashville Mayor Karl Dean was on hand to give certificates to the Academy graduates.

MyCity Academy was launched by Mayor Dean with the New Americans Advisory Council in 2012. Among the first of its kind in the nation, MyCity empowers new Americans to understand and participate in Nashville’s government. More than 20 countries have been represented so far among MyCity participants. Over the course of six months, MyCity participants met with leaders from Metro departments and toured Metro facilities. In doing so, they gained a better understanding of how their government works and learned how to resolve issues and obtain information.

Santana recently earned American citizenship during a naturalization oath ceremony this summer. We are very proud of you, Alex!
