The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Chapter of Best Buddies will be celebrating Intellectual Disabilities (ID) Awareness Week with a collection of educational and fun events the week of Dec. 9.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, a family panel will be sharing health care stories from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in Room 202 of Light Hall.
On Thursday, Dec. 12, a provider panel will discuss communication and ID prejudice. Participants will include Tom Cheetham, M.D., CCFP, Director, Office of Health Services, Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Deputy Commissioner of Child Health, Department of Children’s Services, and Adjoint Assistant Professor of Developmental Disabilities; Tyler Reimschisel, M.D., Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology; Director, Division of Developmental Medicine; Director, Vanderbilt LEND; and Carol Rabideau, LCSW, Social Worker, UCEDD, and Field Supervisor, University of Tennessee College of Social Work. This panel will also take place from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in Room 202 of Light Hall.
To close out ID Awareness Week with a bang, the Vandy Med Chapter will be holding its second annual Funky Sweater Party, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, in the Student Lounge.
Food will be provided at all events. Attendees are asked to sign up on Student Portal.
