A faculty and staff member of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC) and one VKC Investigator have earned 2014 awards from the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) for their service in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Elise McMillan, J.D., received the AAIDD Service Award. McMillan is co-director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, director of Community Outreach, and senior associate in Psychiatry. For almost 20 years, McMillan has helped expand opportunities at the community, state, and national levels to improve disability service systems, especially in the areas of transition, postsecondary education, and employment.
Jan Rosemergy, Ph.D., VKC deputy director and director of Communications and Dissemination, received the AAIDD Education Award. This award recognized significant contributions to dissemination of knowledge in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. For 35 years, Rosemergy has been dedicated to using communication and dissemination strategies to transfer knowledge generated by disability research into practice, where it can be used by families and professionals.
Julie Lounds Taylor, Ph.D., assistant professor of Pediatrics and Special Education and a VKC Investigator, received the AAIDD Early Career Award. This award recognizes contribution or achievement in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities by an individual in the early stages of his/her career. Earning her Ph.D. in 2004, Taylor has since made a mark on inclusion and transition research among young adults with autism spectrum disorders.
Rosemergy, McMillan, and Lounds Taylor received their awards at the 138th Annual AAIDD Meeting in Orlando, Fla., June 23-26.
