Addressing Mental Health Issues in Research Contexts

Psychiatric and behavioral disorders occur across the full spectrum of intellectual and neurobiological functioning. However, because of the wide variation in ability levels and symptom presentation, mental health assessment approaches differ across populations, settings, and age ranges. This session will feature a panel of experienced professionals who represent a research setting with individuals with developmental disabilities related to genetic syndromes; a university clinic setting serving high functioning individuals with a broad array of psychiatric conditions; and a private practice setting including both typical and atypical populations. Please join us as we explore the unique and shared aspects of the assessment process, as well as associated challenges.
