VKC Special Lecture: Brain Injury in Premature Birth and Developmental Delay

Vittorio Gallo, Ph.D., Wolf-Pack Chair in Neuroscience Research and Director, Center for Neuroscience Research, Children’s Research Institute at Children’s National Medical Center, presented a lecture titled "Brain Injury in Premature Birth and Developmental Delay" on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 241 of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, located at 110 Mangolia Circle, Nashville. Gallo's laboratory studies neural progenitor development as well as the response to injury in the immature and adult brain. The lab focuses on questions of oligodendrocyte development and myelination, as well as neuron-glia communication in the Central Nervous System (CNS) during development and after injury. The CNS consists of neurons, which carry nerve impulses, and glial cells, which provide multiple functions to both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.
