Technology as a tool in research and services for individuals with intellectual and development disabilities will be the keynote topic at the 10th Annual Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Science Day, Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1-5 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Student Life Center.
Following a lunch buffet that opens at noon, the Science Day Welcome begins 1 p.m.
At 1:15 p.m., graduate students and postdoctoral fellows will present “data blitz” or “lightning talks.” All are winners of the Warren Lambert Memorial Travel Awards for best poster abstracts in Science Day’s three theme areas of Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience; Clinical, Behavioral, and Intervention Research; and Systems Neuroscience.
The keynote address at 2 p.m. will be delivered by Leonard Abbeduto, Ph.D., Tsakopoulos-Vismara Endowed Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the MIND Institute, University of California Davis. Like the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC), the MIND Institute is a national Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center.
The poster sessions begin at 3 p.m. with approximately 100 posters in the three theme areas presented by undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working with VKC researchers.
Science Day will conclude at 4:30 p.m. with a quiz and prizes, and a wine and cheese reception.
The 2018 VKC Science Day planning committee is chaired by Ron Emeson, with theme chairs Aaron Bowman, Melanie Schuele, David Zald.
