VKC, The Arc TN seeking personal stories for Civic Engagement issue of Kindred Stories

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center and The Arc Tennessee are partnering to collect stories from individuals with disabilities and their families on the topic of civic engagement. We want to highlight how people with disabilities and their families are making a difference in their communities through the political process. The Kindred Stories of Disability project is an important educational tool for legislators and policymakers and we need your stories!

We’re interested in your stories about:

• Voting (first-time, barriers/accessibility, importance of participation, etc…)
• Educating elected officials about issues that impact people with disabilities and families
• Advocating for the rights of people with disabilities

Interviews last about an hour, can take place in your home or other location (even over the phone!), and will be conducted in September and October of 2019. Stories will be compiled in a booklet and then shared with legislators and policymakers during the 2020 Disability Day on the Hill. You’ll get a copy too!
