On July 20, representatives of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation headed to Washington, D.C. to advocate for Rett syndrome. It was standing room only at the Congressional briefing sponsored by U.S. Reps. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-2) and Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-7), with 39 Congressional offices in attendance and several local Rett families. During the one-hour briefing led by IRSF CEO Melissa Kennedy, attendees heard from a panel of Rett syndrome experts and parents who shared their insights, raising awareness of the disease and the need to advance research to develop treatments and a cure.

IRSF extends thanks to everyone who attended, congressional sponsors, and panelists: IRSF Board members and parents Mary Forrest Engel and Leslie Mehta; IRSF CSO and parent Dr. Dominique Pichard; Director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Dr. Jeff Neul; and Acadia Pharmaceuticals' Dr. James Youakim.
