Description
Are you a war veteran of OEF/OIF/OND interested in participating in a research study?
We are looking for military personnel (age 21-40) who have been in combat and who may have:
- Difficulty falling/staying asleep
- Distressing memories or unpleasant dreams of events that occurred during combat
- Less interest in activities
- Feel distant/cutoff from others.
Study Purpose:
To investigate the effects of combat-related trauma on brain structure and function.
Study Duration:
The study requires two trips to Vanderbilt. The first visit will be 3 hours and will include a brief interview, completing questionnaires, and providing a saliva sample. The second visit will be 2 hours and will involve a MRI scan. You will provide additional saliva samples during this visit.
Eligibility Criteria:
You may be eligible for this study if you are a war veteran (age 21-40) who was exposed to combat trauma (with proof of military service) as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or Operation New Dawn and do not have any of the following: traumatic brain injury, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorder, attention-related disorders (e.g., ADHD), excessive alcohol or drug use in the past 3 months, use of medications that affect brain function (except for sleep aids), or history of CNS disease.
Participant Criteria
War veterans (ages 21-40) who were exposed to combat trauma as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or Operation New Dawn.
Compensation
You will be compensated $125.00 for completing the study.
