Does your child show challenging behavior?

Principal Investigator: Amy Weitlauf, Ph.D.

Description

We want to learn about new ways to measure and understand behavior in children and teenagers.

If you participate,

  • You and your child will come to Vanderbilt for up to 3 sessions lasting about 90 minutes.
  • We will talk to you about your child’s behavior.
  • Your child will do different things with a therapist while we measure his or her heartrate, breathing, and movement using a Fitbit-like watch and a special cotton hoodie.

We will also take video and make notes about the behavior that he or she shows.

This is a voluntary research study.

Participant Criteria

Children ages 3-17 who have diagnoses like autism spectrum disorder or intellectual disability. We are also seeking children without a diagnosis who may get upset or aggressive (hitting, yelling) when they are frustrated.

Compensation

Families will be given a $100 Amazon gift card for participating.
