Description
All youth with disabilities should have opportunities to be involved in their own Individualized Education Program (IEP) planning during the transition to adulthood. However, youth who are nonspeaking or minimally speaking and use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) may not have appropriate opportunity and support to be involved in their transition planning. This study will involve interviewing young adults who use AAC (aged 18-26) and their parents, special education teachers, and speech-language pathologists about their experiences. We want to learn more about how to improve the ways that youth who use AAC are involved in transition planning.
