Measuring Math

Our research study aims to improve our understanding of mathematical ability in students K-12 and validate new measures of mathematics

If you are interested and are eligible based on the criteria below, we will ask you to come to Vanderbilt University for one approximately 60 to 90 minute visit.

Study Duration

During the visit, your child will complete different age-appropriate math problems and work with numbers using paper and pencil or a computer under the guidance of one of our trained lab members. Children usually enjoy participating, and we make every effort to ensure that the sessions are friendly and fun. You will also be asked to complete a demographic questionnaire and may be asked to complete a home math environment survey.

Eligibility Criteria/ Participant Criteria

  • Typically developing children between 5 and 18 years of age
  • No diagnosis of hearing disorders
  • Normal or corrected-to-normal vision
  • English spoken from birth, but not necessarily the child's only language

Compensation

$20 per hour. Participants will be emailed an electronic gift card, with the amount being relative to the time your session takes. Your child may be offered a small prize for participating.

Visit Requirements

One study visit to Vanderbilt University, lasting approximately between 60 and 90 minutes.
