What is Inclusion?

  • The most basic definition of inclusion is “the state of being included.” This does not adequately capture what it means to be truly inclusive. True inclusion incorporates modifications that allow all individuals to belong and make meaningful contributions to a space and/or program. The culture at an organization should reflect this as well by allowing each individual to feel valued and comfortable bringing their strengths and challenges to the organization.
  • Inclusion is the highest level of engagement all organizations should strive for.
  • Inclusion is an ever-evolving process. There is always room for improvement and growth in the journey towards true inclusion.
