National Core Indicators (NCI)

National Core Indicators (NCI) began in 1997 as a collaborative effort between the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) and the Human Services Research Institute (HSRI). The goal of the program was to encourage and support NASDDDS member agencies to develop a standard set of performance measures that could be used by states to manage quality, benchmark progress from one year to the next and make comparisons across states. In addition to yearly reports, NCI has produced 5- and 10-year reports of data trends as well as Annual Reports. A complete description of the NCI Survey Tools and process is located on the NCI website, www.nationalcoreindicators.org.
