Project TASK: Improving Transition Planning for Students with Autism by Enhancing Access, Skills, and Knowledge of Adult Services

We are recruiting online focus groups to provide feedback as they develop TASK, a transition planning program.

Purpose of the study

The goal of this study is to create and test a new program that helps teachers give information about adult services to students with autism and their parents during transition planning.

Who

Special education teachers:

  • Work at a public school or TDOE-approved private school in TN
  • Teach high school students with autism
  • Have at least 3 years of teaching and are certified in special education

Adult disability service providers:

  • Work in TN providing services that align with transition outcomes, such as vocational rehabilitation agencies, postsecondary education programs, or community living programs
  • Have at least 3 years providing disability services

Adolescents/young adults with autism:

  • 14.5 years or older and live in TN
  • In high school or have completed high school within the past five years
  • Have autism as documented in most recent Individualized Education Program (IEP)

Parents of adolescents/young adults with autism:

  • Live in Tennessee
  • Have a son/daughter that fits the listed criteria above for adolescent/young adult with autism
